Weekly Roundup: 8/28/2025

There’s been a ton of great music dropping over the past few weeks—almost too much to keep up with! Here are a few favorites I’ve had on repeat lately, in no particular order:

Deftones - private music
Okay, everyone has been talking about this one—and for good reason. Deftones hit that perfect blend of shoegaze and alt-metal, carving out this strange little space that’s both heavy and eerily quiet. It’s the kind of sound that’s really become their master craft. I can already tell this one’s going to dominate my fall listening.
Standouts: “cXz,” “milk of the madonna,” “~metal dream”

sombr - I Barely Know Her
I ended up enjoying this album way more than I expected. The production has this kind of vintage warmth to it that I love, and every track has a hook that just gets stuck lodged into the depths of my brain. It’s an easy go-to for driving around or when I need something quick and catchy.
Standouts: “12 to 12,” “canal street,” “under the mat”

The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die - Dreams of Being Dust
Okay, I hadn’t listened to TWIABP since 2015’s Harmlessness, so this one really surprised me. The shift toward a more hardcore/prog-rock sound totally works for me, and the guest features from Counterparts and Drug Church fit so well. I really appreciate the heavier, more topical lyrics. Definitely planning to go back and catch up on the records that I’ve missed from this band.
Standouts: “Se Sufre Pero Se Goza,” “Beware the Centrist,” “Auguries of Guilt”

letlive. - The Blackest Beautiful (Revisited)
I’ve loved letlive. for years, so I was hyped to hear they were reuniting and giving The Blackest Beautiful the revisit it deserves. Even with the original’s rougher production, I still adored it—but the “Revisited” version fixes that blown-out, playing through a busted speaker sound and lets the songs really shine. It’s everything I loved about the original, but cleaned up and sharper.
Standouts: “That Fear Fever,” “Younger,” “The Dope Beat”
